We made the dating app we wanted to use.
The other apps optimize for swipes. We optimize for one good Sunday brunch with someone you actually want to be at brunch with.
The problem with infinite
The average person on traditional dating apps swipes through 1,400 profiles before going on one date. A third of those dates never lead to a second one. Most users delete the app within three months — not because they found someone, but because they got tired.
Infinite choice doesn't help you find someone. It just helps you get faster at not finding them.
Why one a day
When you only get one Daily Pick, you read the profile. You actually look at the photos. You sit with the Story Cards before you say Yes or Not now. You start treating the person on the other side like a human being instead of a thumbnail.
It also means we can be choosier about who we send you. We're not trying to keep you in the app. We're trying to get you out of it — into a coffee shop, a hike, a real life.
Built around three rules
- Quality over quantity. One Daily Pick. Curated by a model trained on what makes long-term relationships actually last, not what gets the most right-swipes.
- Intent over impulse. Story Cards force real answers. Compatibility Reads show why we picked someone before you decide.
- Conversation has a clock. The 7-day Conversation Window means you say something real and then meet, instead of texting forever and never moving forward.
Who we are
Smart Dates is built by a small team of people who've all been on too many bad dates and read too many studies about dating-app burnout. We're independent, paid by our members, and not part of any of the major dating-app conglomerates.
Where we're headed
We're starting with one Daily Pick. We're slowly adding the things that help that one pick succeed — Live Hello, Beyond Today, the human concierge curator on Premium. We're never adding an infinite scroll, because that would be us giving up.
